This class will cover the basics for the young or beginning sailor. Safety will be the highest priority. Classroom instruction will cover basic theory, terminology and history for a traditional 12' - 18' sailboat. After a brief classroom session, we'll head out on the water (Lake Union) and practice raising sail, sailing to various points of wind and docking under sail. Bring a lunch and dress appropriately for the weather. The classroom aspect would introduce the student to the aerodynamics of a sail, the various lines (ropes, halyards, sheets) on a small boat, balance between sail and tiller, basic navigation and right of way rules. Then we'll put what we've learned into practice on the water.

Fee: $50
